A story about cycling

Never a Race is a short film that explores the journey of Dan, who found solace and healing through cycling after the loss of a family member. The film is set in the North Pennines and showcases his personal story as he shares how remote riding became a means of coping with grief and led to his deep passion for ultra-cycling and a profound connection with the outdoors.

We all ride for a reason

The film is a poignant exploration of resilience, healing, and the profound impact that the outdoors can have on an individual’s mental and emotional well-being. Motivated by a desire to find solitude and peace on roads less travelled, the film captures Dan’s while out cycling around a remote part of the North Pennies having always been fascinated by the wilderness, and landscapes that a bike gives him the ability to explore—whether that’s by road or gravel.

"For me being on a bike is about escaping the everyday — I choose routes that get me away from people, away from traffic and into remote places that I hopefully don’t have to share with anyone".
